"Wish You Were Here" is another song by Avril Lavigne of her latest album Goodbye Lullaby. Its a song of heartache and misery because she is separated from her lover.
The video is incredibly gloomy and sad as we see her sitting in a dark, bear and wretched environment that is best seen to understand. We also see that her heart is in a similar state as she tears to pieces a beautiful flower and then lights a fire to burn what remains. She then sits and continues to sing the song as real tears stream down her face. She then lies down in a tub full of water covering everything, but the face. Then the face drops in, fully immersing herself in the water. After a second she rises out of the water and resumes the song, climbs out and turns to the window which seems to be the only source of light in the room.
The song itself I also found powerful as she mostly ran over those same thoughts over and over. How she wished her lover was there because I've found that in our darkest times having a person with you who loves you and is willing to help bear the burdens we bear can make a world of difference. Being in a desolate place all alone is very much worse than to be in that same place with one other.
I have learned that there are many who live lives such as that everyday and because such a life becomes intolerable long term people turn to money, video games, social networking, or anything to take his or her mind off the truly wretched reality. There are also those who resort to drugs or alcohol, but make no mistake, both will end with this person having lived an empty life if the most they attain is a superficial relationship made through Facebook.
Jesus did not come to this earth so people could live such wretched lives, but that they could have life to the fullest, with love, friendship and peace. Peace is not just playing 5 hours of video games so till I am too tired to realize I spent another evening alone, but rather contentment with the life I am living so I am ready to embrace and own every minute of my life with joy.
