For a long while I have found Eminem's song and video called Beautiful from his Relapse album to be one of his best. While most of his music is evil and sometimes even Satanic this one stands apart for truth, mercy and love. Things you cannot usually associate with this artist.
The reason I love this video is because it is a deliberate attempt at honesty unlike most of the stuff the modern music industry is producing today. Eminem is at least willing to attempt to look inside of himself and write down what he sees for the world to see. What he finds is a very broken and in many ways a defeated man. He has many opportunities to hide that truth from himself and everyone else, but for at least this song he is choosing not to hide behind any of them. Rather he choose to reveal the truth as he knew it to the world.
The video itself was shot in Detroit calling to attention how the city had fallen so hard from the privileged position to the one of death, destruction and desolation it is experiencing now. Perhaps this perspective of Detroit is an opportunity to look into the soul of the artist.
At this time the situation seems incredibly hopeless like it may in many of our lives and communities, but with the Lord it is never hopeless. God showed the prophet Ezekiel a field of dry bones and was asked if these bones can live. Ezekiel answered correctly when he said only You Lord can know. For we cannot know the things of God, but we can know he can do all things therefore with him there is always hope.
A question I have been asking myself for years now is why does a God so full of grace, mercy and love is the Church of North America poor. Why are we so powerless against the forces of the economy, of spiritual darkness and the secular forces within our society? The answer that came was the Church first needs to repent of their sins. That as long as we persist on the path of sin we will not be cleansed through the blood of Jesus and be made ready to do his work. And until we are ready to do the work of Christ Jesus we then the evil we face will only grow more powerful while we grow weaker.
Fortunately there is more to the story; on 11/11/11 or tomorrow those who are called by the name of Jesus will gather in Ford's Field in Detroit and pray and fast for 24 hours for the sins of their city, their state and their nation. Thus 2 Chronicles 7:14 will be fulfilled "if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." It is my belief that if we learn from them and do likewise then the whole land of North America shall be healed and I have no doubt of that in my mind.
I hope this post gives you all encouragement and blessings from the Lord most high that we may be set free from every chain and rope that ties us to sin, corruption and wickedness.
